Send Confidential Mails Using Gmail

Confidential Emails in Gmail

Want to send any confidential emails which will have a certain mail expiry date?
Yes, it is possible now with the Gmail Confidential Mails option. It will take only a few minutes to configure your first mail with an expiry date.
An expiring email won’t totally disappear from the sender's mailbox, it will be available in the "Sent” folder. You will have to manually delete the expiring email if you don’t want it to exist.

You can send expiring emails having messages and attachments confidentially through Gmail via both mobile and computer.
After the expiry date, the recipient won’t have the option to forward, copy, print, or download the email.

Confidential Emails

You just need to follow a few simple steps to set an expiry date for your emails.

How to send confidential emails with an expiry date in Gmail?

Step 1: Open Gmail on your mobile phone > tap Compose > three-dotted icon > Confidential mode.
On a computer, go to Gmail and click on Compose. In the bottom right corner of the window, you need to click on the “Turn on confidential mode.”

Step 2: Now you have to set an expiration date to 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, or 5 years. There are no time options for less than 1 day.

Step 3: You now need to select a passcode.
If you select “No SMS passcode,” recipients using the Gmail app will be able to open the email directly and won’t be required to enter any passcode and those who don’t use Gmail will get emailed a passcode.

If you select “SMS passcode,” the recipient will get a passcode by text message.
You just need to make sure that you have to enter the recipient’s phone number, not your own.
Once done, just click on Save. You can then send the email.

Revoke early access of the email before the expiry date.

Gmail also gives you the option to stop your recipient from viewing the email before the expiration date. If you want the recipient won't be able to see the email after you have accidentally hit that send button, then the confidential email has a great option for that.

Below are the steps to revoke access early after setting an expiration date for an email.

Step 1: Open Gmail on your device and visit the Sent folder.
Step 2: Open the confidential email and click on Remove access.

After removing the access your mail recipient won't be able to open and see your mail.

How to open an email sent with the confidential mode on?

If someone sent you an email using the confidential mode then:
You can view the message and its attachments until the expiration date or until the sender removes access.
Options to copy, paste, download, print, and forward the message text and attachments will be disabled.
You might need to enter a passcode to open the email as configured by the sender during sending the email.

You can use this feature from Gmail to send messages and attachments with a confidential mode to help protect sensitive information from unauthorized access.
So if you want to send some private and confidential emails to your friend or family then use this great feature from Gmail.
